Are Generic Drugs Worth It

These days, everyone is looking for a way to save money. Sometimes this may mean purchasing a less expensive brand as opposed to your usual purchase. While some may have little problem switching from Pepsi to RC Cola, others find it a little difficult to make the switch from their name brand prescription drug to a generic one. Yes, this will definitely cut back on a number of costs but will it come with diminished effectiveness. Really, will those generic drug substitutes turn out to be worth it or is it a huge mistake to go generic.

You really need not be worries so much about cost as much as your should be worried about effectiveness. When it comes to generic drugs that are FDA approved, you can reasonably expect that the drugs are effective. If they were not they would never make it to the pharmacies. (Yes, there are occasional cases of defective products and recalls but these are mostly rare instances)When the FDA stamps an approval on a generic drug, it is because the drug has been tested time and time again. And for a generic to be approved it must pass all tests and deliver the same effective results that the name brand version of the drug.

When it comes to purchasing generic drugs from overseas, this is where you may run into problems with generic drugs. Many people will look towards overseas pharmacies as a cost saving method. However, there are no safety standards or tests. This means the results may be less than desirable. Or, worse, they could be dangerous and present adverse health effects. As such, it is probably best to avoid purchasing generic drugs that are outside the jurisdiction of the Food and Drug Administration.

However, those generics that you purchase inside the USA will more than likely deliver on all expectations.
