Pfizer is taking Action

Pfizer, the maker of Viagra (sildenafil citrate), announced today that the company is taking legal action against dozens of illegitimate online “pharmacies” and working with law enforcement agencies to block sales of counterfeit Viagra and illegal “generic” versions of Pfizer’s erectile dysfunction medication. In addition, the company has launched a new public awareness advertising campaign and online resource on www.viagra.com to help educate consumers about how to avoid illegitimate websites, safely purchase genuine Viagra online, and help minimize Viagra spam.

Can I Buy Generic Viagra?

Short Answer: No, Viagra is a patented medication. “Generic Viagra”is NOT FDA-approved, and is illegal and unsafe. “Generic Viagra” is typically made overseas in countries such as India or China and are illegally shipped into the U.S. Do not take or order “generic Viagra,” as these pills are not safe for consumption.

Long Answer: Viagra (sildenafil citrate) is manufactured by Pfizer and has been trademarked since 1996. The FDA approved Viagra for the use of treating erectile dysfunction on March 27, 1998, making it the first pill approved to treat ED in the United States. The exclusive patent rights to manufacture and market Viagra belong to Pfizer.

“Generic Viagra” is a clone pill usually manufactured in countries like India and China, and is shipped illegally into the U.S. It is illegal for anyone in a foreign country, even a pharmaceutical company, to ship prescription drugs to the U.S. that have not been approved by the FDA. Even if the drug is legally sold in it’s country of origin, it cannot be shipped to and/or sold in the United States.

Without FDA approval, a drug that is shipped from a foreign country carries the danger of being something completely different from what it is claimed to be. A foreign company may say they are shipping Viagra, but what they call Viagra might be nothing close to Viagra. The drug being shipped may be treat erectile dysfunction, but it may work differently than Viagra, and could have completely different side effects, resulting in serious health problems.

“It is illegal for anyone, including a foreign pharmacy, to ship prescription drugs that are not approved by FDA into the U.S. even though the drug may be legal to sell in that pharmacy’s country.”

Do NOT buy “generic Viagra” online. Only buy medications online from a reputable, safe, and secure online pharmacy.
